Creativity: n. the ability to transcend traditional rules, and the like, and create meaningful new ideas, forms, methods, interpretations, etc.
The first attempt to measure creativity was carried out by J.P. Guilford in 1967, who developed the Test of Divergent Thinking. Participants are asked to list as many possible uses of an object (e.g. paper clip, cup), and they are scored based on the different categories of functions they came up with, the relevance of their answers, their originality in relation to other participants' responses and the amount of detail in their descriptions.
Other measures of creativity include the six-item creativity measure by Tierney, Farmer and Graen (1999), the self-assessed Kathena-Torrance Creative Perception Inventory (KTCPI) and the domain-specific Consensual Assessment Technique (CAT).
